Thank you to everyone who joined us at this year’s Fair Civil Justice Annual Conference.
It was wonderful to see such strong attendance from legal, business and policy circles. Our panellists shared perspectives from across different industries and jurisdictions, providing insights into both the UK class action regime and class action regimes globally.
The day began with a warm welcome from our Executive Director, Seema Kennedy OBE, followed by speeches from Suzanne Clark, President and CEO of the US Chamber of Commerce, and Mary Harney, Former Tánaiste of Ireland, setting the stage for an afternoon of important conversation.
Speakers highlighted the rise of mass claims in the UK, the need for regulation of litigation funding, and the growing economic risks from mass litigation.
We also hosted the inaugural screening of our short film showcasing the human impact in Burnley of the cavity wall insulation scandal and the subsequent failure of SSB Law, underscoring the threat of predatory litigation.
Consumer protection is a key focus of FCJ’s mission, and we are grateful for the attendance of the SSB Law Victims Group, Divorce Without Debt and its founder Rosie Heys. These organisations do vital work advocating for consumers and ensuring that regulation is adequate.
We are also grateful to Stephen Waguespack, President of the US Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform (ILR), and David Meyerson, ILR Executive Director for State and International Affairs, who both travelled across the Atlantic to attend and share lessons learned from the US legal system.
A special thank you to our sponsors Faegre Drinker, CMS, Jones Day, Skadden, and Kendal Global Advisory, and to our host, NatWest, without whom the conference would not have been possible.
We look forward to building on the momentum of the conference and to many more successes in the coming year.
