Yesterday, FCJ was delighted to host an Access to Justice breakfast event in Liverpool – the first of its kind – on the fringes of the Labour Party Conference. It was a valuable opportunity to bring together policymakers, corporates, and business leaders to hear first hand from individuals affected by predatory litigation.

We were joined by Oliver Ryan MP, the Member of Parliament for Burnley, who kindly chaired our fireside chat. He was joined on the panel by Laura Longworth of the Burnley Express and Rosie Heys from the Legal Negligence & Mismanagement Campaign Group (LNMCG), alongside Debra Sofia Magdalene from the SSB Law Victims Support Group, which supports those impacted by the cavity wall insulation scandal.

Our Executive Director, Seema Kennedy OBE, making opening remarks.

The discussion centred on the human stories linked to third-party litigation funding and powerfully highlighted how exploitative litigation is failing the very consumers that firms claim to represent. After hearing many alarming experiences from real people with real stories, the conversation turned to the need for regulation and the practicalities of reform. Every single story is important to FCJ, and these are crucial voices in our campaign. At the same time, the discussion underscored just how much work still lies ahead.

Being present at a party conference gave FCJ the opportunity to directly engage with policymakers and build momentum for the rest of 2025 and beyond.

A big thank you to all our speakers and attendees for a truly constructive discussion.
